All temporary rules and regulations approved!

Happy Monday KAPN Members and Kansas APRNs!
Today we had TWO very positive outcomes regarding the process of full practice taking effect for the sunflower state:
FROM THE KANSAS STATE BOARD OF NURSING (KSBN) -
The last four temporary regulation changes were presented to the State Records and Rules Board this morning and they approved all four of them. These are the following:
K.A.R. 60-11-101
K.A.R. 60-11-104
K.A.R. 60-11-105
K.A.R. 60-11-107
What does this mean? You can now practice without a collaborative agreement with a responsible physician in all of your practice.
Please review the temporary regs that were approved to ensure you understand your scope of practice. These temporary regulations are effective today.
Kansas APRN’s, please read the following notice on our website regarding updates on APRN Changes. https://ksbn.kansas.gov
A big Thank You to Carol Moreland, director of the Kansas Board of Nursing. She did a great job explaining the rules and was clear that it was the 1) intent of the legislature 2) within the authority of the BON and 3) appropriate to issue and have these regulations approved.

Following the temporary rules and regulations the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and Regulations (JCARR) met to discuss the APRN rules and regulations. I had the opportunity to testify on behalf of KAPN, following testimony by KMS. If you would like to view this meeting, please follow the link below:
JCARR does not vote on our permanent rules and regulations- Carol takes their comments back to KSBN, it is just part of the process to have the JCARR hearing. Next up is the public hearing for the proposed final rules and on September 6th, and after this date is when the permanent rules and regulations take effect.
Thank you for all your efforts to meet healthcare needs for Kansans, and thank you for your engagement. Please stay engaged as we move toward permanent rules and regulations after the public hearing!
Best,
Laurel Short, DNP, FNP-C
