Sunflower Spotlight- Meet our Presenters!

This is the second of four emails in which we are highlighting speakers and topics for the upcoming Sunflower Conference! Dr. Jason Burk is triple board-certified in nurse anesthesia, family nurse practitioner, and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Before attending nurse anesthesia school, he obtained critical care experience at Wesley Medical Center in the emergency and surgical ICU departments. After graduating from Texas Wesleyan University in 2006 with a Master in Nurse Anesthesia, Jason immediately began working in an all CRNA group providing anesthesia and analgesia care. He earned the DNP excellence award for his project on the use of ketamine in patients with treatment-resistant depression. Dr. Burk is the 2022 recipient of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners state award for his contribution to increasing awareness and recognition of nurse practitioners throughout Kansas. Jason currently lives in south central Kansas with his two children.

This is an exciting time in headache medicine! Join Dr. Laurel Short as she simplifies the current landscape in migraine medications and how to optimize treatment plans for your patients.

Dr. Laurel Short is a Family Nurse Practitioner at Sunflower Medical. She completed her Doctor of Nursing degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City with an emphasis on self-management for chronic migraine. She is passionate about partnering with patients to maximize their function and wellness. She has a certification in Headache Medicine and is the current President of KAPN. Outside of the office, you will find her training for endurance events, traveling, and chasing after her two young children.

Feeling in the dark about the latest guidelines for wound treatment? Wound care specialist Abigail Lehman will take the mystery out of wound care at our upcoming Sunflower conference!

Abigail Lehman, APRN is a wound care specialist in Hutchinson, Kansas. We look forward to learning from her experience in this important area.

We are excited to learn more about how functional medicine can be incorporated with chronic disease management!

Emily Day is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner with advanced certification in Functional Medicine. She completed her training at Kansas University School of Nursing in 2012, and her certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine in 2019. Emily helps patients with a variety of conditions, and formulates personalized treatment plans from a Functional Medicine approach. She recently opened her own practice in Prairie Village, Daylight Functional Medicine.
